Bitcoin mining hosting in Canada (Québec & Ontario)

Canada offers clean hydro power, a cold climate and a stable legal system, and Bull Miners hosts in Québec and Ontario from $0.0180/kWh at 1 available site. New mining power is hard to get: Hydro-Québec froze crypto allocations in 2023, its blockchain rate is set to rise, and many Canadian sites are converting to AI.

Who Canada suits

For owners who want a low-risk jurisdiction and renewable power, and value legal certainty over the lowest rate.

Cooling

Cold winters and mild summers suit air-cooled machines.

Key risks

  • Pending Hydro-Québec rate increase on non-firm supply.
  • No new crypto allocations in Québec; Ontario may exclude miners from Global Adjustment relief.
  • Hosts converting to AI/HPC (e.g. Bitfarms winding down mining) may not renew ASIC contracts.

FAQ

Mining hosting in Canada — questions

How much does Hydro-Québec charge crypto miners?

Rate CB, for cryptographic use of 50 kW or more, is 18.078 CAD¢/kWh on non-firm supply. In February 2026 Hydro-Québec proposed raising it to an average of about 19.5¢, subject to approval by the Régie de l'énergie.

Can new miners connect in Québec?

Not to the dedicated crypto block — allocations have been suspended since January 2023. New hosted machines go into existing hosting capacity, which is limited.

Is mining profitable in Canada?

It depends on efficiency. With rates higher than Paraguay or Ethiopia, newer machines like the Antminer S23 (11 J/TH) keep a margin where older 18–19 J/TH units struggle. Use the live rate on this page with our calculator.

Why is Canadian hashrate falling?

Hashrate Index puts Canada at −27% year on year, mostly because hosting sites are being converted to AI and high-performance computing, which pays more per megawatt.
